Patients' lives at stake in Pakistan's largest government hospital, 28 ventilators inoperative

Karachi: The lives of patients are at stake in Pakistan's largest government hospital, as it has been revealed that 28 ventilators are non-functional.

The crisis of medical and administrative staff in Jinnah Hospital Karachi has become extremely serious. Sources say that the hospital has vent facilities but they cannot be used.

Sources said that in 5 different departments in the hospital where vents are available, the required staff is not available to use them.

In the medical ICU, 6 out of 10 vents are functional, in the surgical ICU, only 8 out of 24 ventilators are functional, in the clinical ICU, only 7 out of 15 ventilators are functional, and 6 in neurotrauma, while there is only one ventilator in the ward that is functional.

On the other hand, there are 58 nursing staff posts in the medical ICU, but only 8 nursing staff are available, there is a severe shortage of consultant and nursing staff in the hospital.

Sources at Jinnah Hospital say that a total of 28 ventilators are inactive in the hospital, ventilators are available but they are not usable.
