The Supreme Court termed the law of phone tapping as vague

Islamabad: The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench has declared the phone tapping law vague.

The case related to phone tapping was heard by a 7-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin.

During the hearing, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired whether any legislation has been made regarding phone tapping? To which the Additional Attorney General said that the law has been in place since 2013, according to the law, ISI and IB are notified.

The Additional Attorney General told the court that the law has a procedure for phone tapping, and judicial supervision is also in the law.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that according to the law, only a judge can give permission for phone tapping, has any judge been notified for this purpose?

Justice Jamal Mandokhel said that the phone tapping law is vague, while Justice Aminuddin Khan remarked that we are not interested in reports or the law, we want results.

The Additional Attorney General said that he was not aware of the nomination of the judge, to which Justice Jamal Mandokhel said that this case will also have an impact on many pending cases, this matter started from the Chief Justice’s chamber, where will the Chief Justice go.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that the law does not allow everyone to record every phone.

The Advocate on Record (AOR) told the court that the petitioner in this case is not being contacted, the petitioner’s lawyer also died last year.

The court issued a notice to the Advocate Generals on the case and adjourned the hearing of the case.
